We track our steps.
We think about calories.
We try to stay healthy for the people we love.
But when it comes to our pets, most of us rely on feeding charts that don't account for:
Overfeeding is incredibly easy — and often invisible until mobility or arthritis begins to show.
Feeding Friend helps you move from guessing… to understanding.

Hi — I'm Jake.
Feeding Friend didn't begin as a product idea.
It began with my dog, Bear.
Bear was my first best friend — the dog I got as a puppy on my 10th birthday. While I was away at college, he ballooned to nearly 130 pounds. When I came home, he wasn't the same dog anymore. He was struggling to move, and then the vestibular seizures started.
One day, I got the call that he might need to be euthanized. I was driving back from college, completely wrecked, trying to process how my best friend could be slipping away while I felt powerless to help him.
I asked them to wait.
Five days later I found a tiny apartment, went to get him, and carried him to my car because he couldn't stand. When we arrived, I carried him again — up into my apartment — not knowing if I was bringing him home to recover or to say goodbye.
That day was one of the hardest moments of my life.
But something changed.
He had another seizure — and then later that same day, he stabilized. Slowly, we started walking. We focused on food intake. We stopped guessing portions and started being intentional.
Over time, Bear lost nearly 50 pounds.
And instead of losing him then, I got three and a half more years with my best friend.
Three and a half years that felt like a gift — sunrise walks in San Diego, dog beaches, parks, brewery patios, meetups, quiet nights with him sleeping beside me.
That experience changed me.
It taught me that feeding isn't just routine — it's one of the most powerful ways we can protect the animals we love.
The Mission
Feeding Friend exists because I want other pet owners to have the chance I had — to gain a few more years of joy, movement, and connection with their best friend.
Most feeding advice today relies on broad estimates printed on food bags. But our pets aren't averages.
This app is my attempt to give caring pet owners a clearer, more thoughtful way to understand those needs — and turn that understanding into a practical feeding plan.
Not to replace your veterinarian.
Not to sell you a product.
Just to help you make decisions with intention instead of guesswork.
That's why we publish our research openly. Read the articles →
Because at the end of the day, this isn't about an app.
It's about time.
More walks.
More mornings.
More ordinary days that become everything later.

“Our Golden Retriever, Sadie, is getting older, and her nutritional needs are changing. The internet is full of conflicting advice, and it was overwhelming. The Feeding Friend simplified everything. It gave me a clear, science-backed baseline that I could trust. I finally feel like I'm in control of her health as she enters her golden years.”

“My cat, Luna, is an indoor-only cat, and keeping her at a healthy weight has been a constant struggle. The chart on her food bag felt so generic. This app helped me create a plan that was specific to her low-key lifestyle. The best part is sharing the data with my vet, who was impressed with how on top of it we were. It's an essential tool for any cat owner.”

“I was always worried I was overfeeding my Corgi, Winston. He just always seems hungry! The Feeding Friend was a game-changer. Seeing the actual calorie count for his activity level—and being able to factor in his daily treats—gave me the confidence that I'm doing what's best for him. He's leaner, has more energy, and I'm no longer guessing.”

“As the owner of a high-energy Border Collie, my fear was always that I wasn't feeding him enough. This app was the first tool I've found that truly accounts for a highly active dog's needs. It helped me adjust his intake for training days versus rest days. It's simple, intuitive, and honestly, it's a huge stress relief.”

Yes, 100%. The core features of The Feeding Friend—including the feeding calculator, personalized plan, and tracking—are completely free. There is no trial period and no credit card required. This app was built out of a personal mission to help pets live healthier lives, and our goal is to make that accessible to as many owners as possible. In the future, we may offer optional premium features for veterinary professionals or advanced users, but the tool you see today will remain free for pet owners.
Our calculations are based on the most current, peer-reviewed scientific standards for canine and feline nutrition, primarily aligning with the resting energy requirements (RER) and daily energy requirements (DER) formulas used by veterinarians worldwide. These formulas take into account your pet's weight, age, activity level, and spay/neuter status. While a generic feeding chart on a bag of food only considers weight, our tool provides a much more personalized and accurate starting point. We are not a substitute for a veterinary nutritionist, but we provide the same foundational calculations that most vets use to create a nutritional plan.
No, you don't need an account to get an initial calculation. Our 30-second calculator on the homepage will give you an immediate estimate of your pet's needs. We only ask you to create a free account if you want to save your pet's profile, create a detailed feeding plan, track their progress over time, and access your information from multiple devices. Creating an account ensures your pet's personalized plan is always there when you need it.
Absolutely not. The Feeding Friend is an educational tool designed to help you make more informed decisions alongside your veterinarian. It is not a diagnostic tool and does not provide medical advice. We always recommend sharing your pet's feeding plan and any nutritional changes with your vet, especially if your pet has a medical condition, is a growing puppy or kitten, or is a senior. Think of us as the tool that helps you have a better, more data-driven conversation during your next vet visit.
